About Te Awamutu:
Te Awamutu is a town in the Waikato region in the North Island of New Zealand. It is the council seat of the Waipa District and serves as a service town for the farming communities which surround it. Te Awamutu is located some 30 kilometres (19 mi) south of Hamilton on State Highway 3, one of the two main routes south from Auckland and Hamilton.

The town is often referred to as "The Rose Town of New Zealand" because of its elaborate rose gardens in the centre of the town.

Te Awamutu also has an excellent museum, with a large collection of Maori treasures and stories from the Waikato land wars. A display about local music heroes Tim and Neil Finn (Split Enz and Crowded House) is another drawcard.

A number of great walking tracks are on offer in and around Te Awamutu. Head south-east to Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari and explore this inland island reserve which features a 16 metre high forest canopy viewing tower, a 600 year old rata tree and flourishing native bird species. Or head west to Pirongia, another beautiful reserve with ample hiking opportunities or stroll around Lake Ngaroto, a wetland area with ample bird watching opportunities.
