Keeping warm in winter

The Hamilton region is such a wonderful place to live. However, while the summers are comfortable; the winters are cold, wet, and windy and you have to make sure your new home is built to withstand the colder climate.

Preparing your Stroud home for winter is easy with a new build, just switch your heat pump to heat and the insulation and double glazing helps with the rest.

If you really want to shed the winter chill you can go for one of Stroud Homes premium upgrades such as underfloor heating, ducted heating, or a fireplace.

In this blog post we talk to Hamilton home builder Andrea Kim about options to keep your home warm in winter.

Fireplaces: designs, cost and build time

Fireplaces are popular in our area. You find a lot more gas fireplaces in the city where natural gas is common and wood burning fireplaces in the country where they have easy access to fuel.

There are a wide range of styles to choose from. If you would like a fireplace, come talk to us and we can work out what best suits your home.

You can customise any Stroud Homes design to include a fireplace, but some are more suited to it than others. Several house designs have an optional fireplace listed on the plan.

The price range depends on what fireplace you choose, but count on paying anywhere from about $5k extra up to $10k plus. It doesn’t usually add a lot of time to the build – a few days to a week, but again this depends on the model chosen.

Alternative heating options

Stroud Homes Hamilton have a long list of options to keep your new home toasty.

Ducted heating and underfloor heating, along with our standard two heat pumps are all great options for heating your home.

Underfloor heating is especially great in tiled bathrooms and much more cost effective when only in a small area. If you want heat throughout your house, not just the main living area, a ducted system is the way to go.

Fireplaces can be excellent sources of heat and you can get ventilation systems to carry this throughout your home.

There is also something primally satisfying about sitting in front of a fire with rain lashing the windows outside.
